I have a sinking feeling this is a fake conversation
That’ll fade away, these are my contemplations
If we’re serious about this why did only half of us show up?
But I’m sure much more are ready to go to a party to get fucked up.
Four days, you say it’s the real you
But the next three are the one’s you’re always looking forward to
You say “Hey I won’t get this drunk that often”
But what happens next time when those inhibitions are softened?
Fall into a false reality that 3 is greater than 4
And the moment you down that next drink you ask for more
I see the blog of the crazy shit you did messed up
Why not the story of you throwing up?
We glorify the high, hide away the low
We tell them the consequences too late and they just say so?
Alcohol is your new god, alcoholism the new religion
Names of all the drinks are your bible, you can cite it with precision
It’s not just ourselves, it’s the next generation
Our flawed perspective is going to hurt this nation
You have a greater effect than you think
Maybe your little sister saw you taking a drink
Or your little brother heard you brag to your friends
So he tries to drink even more so he can go beyond even your ends
But they don’t see the alcoholic rage
Or that slumped down hungover phase
Maybe you weren't bullied by the kids of the alcoholic parents
You see these actions have a continuing presence
We shouldn’t be in a competition over who hides it better
A pissing contest to pretend who has the best behavior
What needs to change is the attitude
And this can’t just be put into a motto or empty platitude
Man of Principle is a nice phrase but we must make it action
Now its time for a reality check
In no way am I sayin I'm perfect
Or that abstinence is the way
That’s what the self-righteous promote to project away
I’m sayin we should focus on the four
Instead of being alcohol’s whore
This hazing week has been a joke
You would never kid about a fire saying its just smoke
The whole room laughs in an uproar
But would it stop if I told you more?
Hazing is institutionalized college bullying
It’s not friendship building its confidence sullying
Trust me when I say it’s forever altering
You start to build resentment, not bonding
When I was a kid they called me a retard, faggot and bitch
Haha get it? It rhymes with Mitch!
To this day I still have that anger and hate
And sometimes I felt like I was becoming them, like I was about to mutate
It made me who I am today
That’s why I want you to listen when I say
When you haze you’re altering their life
You make it filled with pain and strife
When they laughed, I cringed
Almost made me become unhinged
I see these pledges about respecting sisters and brothers
As if it didn’t belong to any others
Respect and love for others is not exclusive to one group
As far as I know, segregation is not back in the loop
Maybe you heard about this guy named Jesus
He showed his love to all of us
Brothers, sisters, others, and sinners
He didn’t care about the losers or winners
Exclusivity reinforces the stereotype
That I know for a fact isn’t right
We need to stand up for everyone
Until all are one
We need a genuine discussion
That talks seriously about the repercussion
Of our life-changing actions
Time to be adults, we’re no longer children
It’s gotta include all the Greeks and Non-Greeks
And this process has gotta last several weeks
We can begin a conversation
That transforms the nation
Make no mistake I believe things can change
We gotta make the effort to rearrange
It’s the future I believe in and fight for
It’s something higher that I stand for
I’m tired of the facade, and seeing this worsen
I’m tired of this fake conversation
That’ll fade away, these are my contemplations
